D-Mark

The D-Mark was after the Second World War, on Monday, 21 June 1948 introduced in the Western countries and replaced the Reichsmark. Published became the first German D-mark by the Bank countries, and later by the German Bundesbank. The DM had to introduce a strong decline in the value of the internal purchasing power, but was compared to other countries at an advantage and thus supported its existence. The currency union with East Germany were led on 1 July 1990, the D-Mark in the GDR as a means of payment. A very big change for the Ostbürger.

Galt their D-mark but as a symbol of the previous economic boom and was taken by many in connection with prosperity. Was published in the D-Mark coins and Gelscheinen. It had a special value of the coins. Because they were transmitted through different symbols and the wallet in any of the Germans. Thus, on the 1 DM coin depicted the eagle and oak leaves. By contrast, the appearance of the 2 DM coin changed the course of history again and again. Important figures such as Konrad Adenauer, Helmut Kohl and Willy Brandt were allowed to decorate the face of the coin. But even the appearance of the banknotes changed with time.

After the introduction of the euro on 1 January 1999 replaced the Deutsche Mark as its currency and ended her story with it. Up to 31 December 2001 were accepted both currencies to make payments and still be able coins and notes at the Bundesbank and its branches are exchanged. Today, the D-Mark has only a high priority among collectors.
